Kadaugan sa Mactan (Victory at Mactan) is an annual reenactment of datu Lapu-lapu’s victory on April 27, preceded by a week-long celebration which will kickoff on April 25.
The event begins with a fluvial procession of decorated bancas (canoes) representing the arrival of Portugese explorer Ferdinand Magellan’s three ships, the planting of the Cross by Magellan, the baptism of the natives followed by the battle with Lapu-Lapu.
This year though there will be a “Kadaugan sa Mactan” street party and a series of sporting events (a fun run, chess and a swimming challenge in Olango Island.) will take place in Lapu-Lapu City on April 29 at the ML Quezon Highway in Brgy. Pusok.
