“OTAKU” is a Japanese term for “enthusiast” or people who are sincerely interested and passionate for a certain hobby or interest, usually in anime, manga and video games.

You could say  that SineBuano are comprised of otakus of films and filmmaking.

So it’s no surprise last December 12, the University of the Philippines-Cebu Campus’ OTAKU org invites SineBuano to host a short seminar, crash course is more like it, on Independent Filmmaking during the 2009 UP-Cebu Otaku Fest.

Cebuano creativity and skill is clearly proven in the well-made costumes and personas of members of the Cebu Cosplayers Club who participate in the cosplay activities of the UP Otaku Fest 2009.

To set the mood, short films were screened during certain periods of the seminar.

A big hit with the otaku audience were the short spoofs produced and directed by multi-talented Cebuano filmmaker Victor Villanueva.

Afterwards, discussion on key matters related to Cebu’s Independent filmmaking scene were relayed using materials provided by Mr. Ron Heri Tan and Ms. Bambi Beltran.

SineBuano thanks the organizers of the UP Otaku Fest 2009, particulary Paolo Bago for the invite. Also, applause for Victor Villanueva (Be his fan!) for his awesome support and contributions of his video clips. Thanks to SineBuano members Clarence and Franzy for the pics!

Best regards to the Cebu Cosplayers and Otakus!
