SineBuano Weekend, 2/5 & 2/12, 2010
by SineBuano ~ February 18th, 2010. Filed under: SineBuano Articles.SineBuano has been invited by the Mass Communications students of the University of San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R) to take part of their annual Amateur Broadcasting Experimental TV Awards as judges for the short film category.
Last February 5, 2010 a Friday the judging of the short film entries was held. It was an all nighter.
A week later on February 12, 2010 the Awards Night was held in the USJ-R Campus Auditorium.
For the past 9 years, the ABET Awards has fostered student filmmaking in USJ-R, providing the much needed experience into film development and production for Masscom students.
This year, the judges panel was composed of actress-writer Bambi Beltran, veteran production designer and founder of the Sinulog Short Film festival Ron Heri Tan and creative director of SineBuano Diem Judilla.
One of the first things the judges observed that the film entries were not ‘short’. Running on an average of 40 minutes, the judging took all night last February 5 until 4 o’ clock in the morning to screen and judge the 11 entries this year.
Several were delightful to watch but only a couple really stood out.
There were a variety of genres in the short film entries. There was romantic comedy, psychological drama, a period piece and mixes of genres. One could really tell that the student groups behind the production really had fun.
The ABET Awards Night celebrated FILIPINIANA as theme.
Everyone who attended was dressed to the nines. It was an evening of gaiety and glam.
SineBuano would like to congratulate the winners of the ABET Awards, may you all continue your pursuits in filmmaking and make your mark in Cebu’s regional cinema as well as the Philippine national cinema.
SineBuano would like to thank Joworski Alipon and Raquel Sarmiento, President and Secretary of the USJ-R Masscom Coordinates for the invite to be a part of this event.
We look forward to 2011 ABET Awards.
