High time we get a High school movie in Philippine Cinema!

From the director of the award-winning CONFESSIONAL, the critically-acclaimed MANGATYANAN and the box office hit SHAKE, RATTLE & ROLL 12: “PUNERARYA”, comes SENIOR YEAR which opens MARCH 9, 2011 in SM CINEMAS NATIONWIDE.

How fondly do you remember your senior year in high school?

Written and directed by JERROLD TAROG, the film is a  glimpse into the lives of ten  students at St. Frederick’s Academy as they struggle through the final months of their SENIOR YEAR.

Hearts are broken and healed, friendships are formed and lost. Childish ways and dreams are changed for maturity along the bumpy, chaotic road towards adulthood.

Featuring a mix of real students and professional actors, SENIOR YEAR casts Che Ramos, LJ Moreno, RJ Ledesma, Ina Feleo, Arnold Reyes, Ramon Bautista, Dimples Romana, Aaron Balana, Celina Peñaflorida, Eric Marquez, Rossanne de Boda, Nikita Conwi, Daniel Lumain, Mary Lojo, Sheila Bulanhagui, Francez Bunda, Daniel Medrana.

Here are what people are saying about SENIOR YEAR…

…Tarog’s version of high school is fresh, yet familiar enough for everyone to feel like they’re walking down the halls of their own alma maters, whether you’re still in or out of it. High school alumni would probably get a blast from the past as soon as the lives of the characters start playing out.

It’s a disorienting onslaught of uniforms, teachers, names, libraries, classrooms, cafeterias, and gymnasiums. It’s as if we’re exchange students getting our first taste of the campus, but all of this fades away once all the introductions are done. Soon enough we start laughing and gasping as the all-too-familiar high school feelings start creeping in.

Senior Year is most enjoyable when the stories of the characters intertwine and erupt into a chorus of emotions that seem so distant now that we’ve preoccupied ourselves with more pertinent matters.  […]

While the film is brimming with poignant moments, it is the unseen but certainly felt sense of regret that the alumni express, through casual jokes and remarks, while reminiscing that carries the film from being just another high school flick into a heartfelt portrait of our inevitable ordinariness in the midst of a world that is far bigger than any high school campus.

… the best thing about this film is that everything about it, from beginning up to the very end, is very realistic. The storyline perfectly captures the typical Filipino high school experience. A lot of people who either have gone or are still going through high school will surely be able to relate to the triumphs and worries of the students of St. Frederick’s. […]

SENIOR YEAR succeeded in translating to the big screen what typical senior year students face during the final months of high school. Every issue, from keeping relationships afloat to identity crises, was tackled in the movie without overdoing it.
