Confirmed Daytime Screening Of Lav Diaz’s 11 Hour Epic “Ebolusyon” starting at 5 AM!
Schedule of the films to be screened for this one-of-a-kind viewing marathon follows:
12:01 am “INSIANG” directed by LINO BROCKA
“Insiang” is Lino Brocka’s masterpiece of a girl’s coming of age in Manila’s slums.
Insiang lives in a shanty with her mother and Dado– her mother’s lover who lustfully pines for young Insiang only to consumates his desire for the young girl through rape. Insiang runs to her mother for help only to be turned away and abandoned. Her innocence destroyed, Insiang decides to take revenge on those who betrayed her.
“Insiang” is the first ever Filipino film to be part of the Cannes Film Festival in 1978, where both Lino Brocka and Hilda Koronel, the actress who played Insiang, earning both attention and acclaim for Philippine Cinema on a global scale.
2:00 am “MANILA BY NIGHT” directed by ISHMAEL BERNAL
Situated in the capital’s seedy districts, Ishmael Bernal’s film depicts the hard-edge lives of pimps, pushers and poverty-stricken prostitutes.
A lesbian drug dealer, a blind sauna worker and a homosexual clothing designer with dreams bordering on delusions are our guides on this eyes-wide-open tour through Manila’s darker edge of nightlife.
The film features an ensemble of talents such as Cherie Gil, Mitch Valdez, Charito Solis, Orestes Ojeda, Rio Locsin and Bernardo Bernardo.
5:00 am “EBOLUSYON NG ISANG PAMILYANG PILIPINO” directed by LAV DIAZ
Lav Diaz’s austere yet intimate epic that carefully details the 16 year history of one Filipino family, an impoverished farming clan headed by a matriarch whose word is Law, from the rice paddies in the early ’70s to the dog-eat-dog streets in the late ’80s, when the Marcos regime meets its end.
The film runs for 593 minutes (approximately 10 hours) and ranks among the longest films in the world of all time.

The film tells the story of Sarah, a debt collector who is looking for the man of her dreams–Emilio while she goes about her last day of work, making the rounds, meeting different townspeople, settling their debts in Gimbal. She meets Tatang Guillermo who lost heart ever since his daughter Lyn died and has mistaken Sarah for his long-dead daughter.
Interweaving this main storyline are two other stories, one is of the legendary Nagmalitong Yawa, the ethereal elemental maiden who descends to to free her imprisoned beloved, Humadapnon; while the other is of the historical Voluntarios and Revolutionarios– two military groups fighting for independence against American colonization.
10:30 pm “CAVITE” directed by IAN GAMAZON
Flying back to his family’s homeland, the Philippines, to arrange the burial of his deceased father, a Filipino-american receives a mysterious call on his mobile phone that his mother and sister have been kidnapped and will be killed if he doesn’t meet with their demands.
As he follows the phone caller’s orders, the markings of a larger conspiracy are revealed, a conspiracy to a disaster, harming many others.
