This February 10 (Thursday) and February 11 (Friday), SM City Cebu’s Cinema 7 and 6 (respectively) will be featuring American director/screenwriter John Sayles’ wartime drama AMIGO.
This 2010 American drama film, writted and directed by Sayles, casts Joel Torre, Chris Cooper, DJ Qualls, Bembol Roco, Rio Locsin, Pen Medina and Irma Adlawan.
Taking place in the Philippines, 1900 during the Philippine–American War, AMGIO centers on Rafael Dacanay, cabeza of Barrio San Isidro, Luzon.
Rafael’s brother Simón, the local revolutionary leader, has forced the surrender of the Spanish guardia civil outpost. Simon charged Rafael with imprisoning the guardia Captain and the barrio’s Spanish friar, Padre Hidalgo.
When the American troops chasing General Aguinaldo arrive, the Spanish officer and Padre Hidalgo are freed, and Lieutenant Ike Compton and his garrison is left to ‘protect’ the barrio.
Now, Rafael has to answer to both the American soldiers and the Filipino guerrillas, with potential deadly consequences.
