Japanese Film Festival @ Ayala Center Cebu Cinema 4

Organized by the Consular Office of Japan in Cebu in cooperation with the Japanese Association in Cebu, Inc., Japanese Chamber of Commerce & Industry in Cebu, Inc. and Ayala Center Cebu, a showcase of unique films from Japan is being presented in Ayala Center Cebu Cinema 4.

Admission is free-of-charge.

The films, their  show dates and times follow below.

The Milkwoman (2005) – PG 13

July 29 (Wednesday), 7:00 PM

Synopsis: Unmarried 50 year old Minako (Yuko Tanaka) leads a quiet life, working at a supermarket and delivering milk locally. At night she finds solace in novels, her only escape from her dreary daily existence.

Turn Over (2005) – General Audience

July 30 (Thursday),  7:00 PM

Synopsis: An intermittently amusing and occasionally touching drama about an elderly couple struggling with their emotional connection (or the lack thereof) with each other in the midst of an incurable disease.

Tony Takitani (2004) – PG 13

July 31 (Friday),  7:00 PM

Synopsis: When technical illustrator Tony Takitani asks his wife to resist her all-consuming obsession for designer clothes, the consequences are tragic

Mind Game (2004) – R 13

August 1 (Saturday), 4:00 PM

Synopsis: This animated film follows Nishi, a loser who has a crush on his childhood girlfriend. After an encounter with the Japanese mafia, the film follows Nishi as he journeys to heaven and back, and ends up trapped in an even more unlikely place.

Memories of Tomorrow (2006) – General Audience

August 1 (Saturday), 7:00 PM

Synopsis: A successful businessman’s family life is shattered by an early onset of Alzheimer’s.

Kamome Diner (2006) – PG-13

August 2 (Sunday), 4:00 PM

Synopsis: A good-natured film about inter-human relations which concerns a Japanese woman trying to make it to Helsinki by running her own diner with Japanese food

Memories of Matsuko (2006) – R 18

August 2 (Sunday), 7:00 PM

Synopsis: Shou’s father Norio finds his son in a rather meaningless existence in Tokyo dominated by alcohol and porn videos.

    i had small red spots under my eyes after seeing “memories of tomorrow”. It is very touching! never have i cried in a theatre that bad in those dramatic scenes because the movie was so moving!!!
    the movie has the likes of jdrama 1litre of tears and the notebook

    i saw little red spots on my eye bags after seeing MEMORIES OF TOMMOROW! never have i cried that bad inside a theater during those dramatic scenes! wahuhuhuhu!!!
